- From forgotten jellybeans to sparking daydreams, Alex's poems, written for primary school age children, are both funny and thoughtful, and aim to spark familiarity and inclusion. And the illustrations from Katy Riddell will focus on the fun and dreamlike quality of the poems' engagement with the natural world. These poems use rhyme, rhythm and free verse and are ideally suited to performance in a school setting, nurturing a love of language, reading, confidence and self-expression.
Katy Riddell grew up in Brighton and was obsessed with drawing from a young age. Since graduating with a BA Hons in Illustration and Animation from Manchester Metropolitan University, she has worked on Pongwiffy, Midnight Feasting and The International Yeti Collective. She lives and works in Brighton.
Alex Wharton is the National Childrens Laureate for Wales and a writer and performer of poetry for both adults and children.His debut collection, Daydreams and Jellybeans is shortlisted for the Lollies Laugh-out-Loud Awards 2023. He has published many poems in magazines and online and has collaborated with The Reading Realm, where five of his children's poems feature on the iTunes educational app. He has compered literature events and facilitated workshops for adults whilst regularly visiting schools to perform and create poetry with the children.
